Poll: Book 2

Voting is live for our next read!

Hey everybody, the time has come to vote! We are wrapping up The Grapes of Wrath, and you’re welcome to start there or continue reading at your own pace, but next weekend will kick off our second ever read! This poll will be open until the evening of Monday, 2/24. after which I’ll post the winner’s first reading assignment.

If you’ve been reading along or waiting for our second read to start please spread the word. It’s difficult to get people to jump in mid-read, so the times when we’re rolling out a new book are the best opportunities that I have to grow the community. As always, thanks for participating.

Without further ado, the options for our second book:

• The Underground Railroad – Colson Whitehead
  A harrowing reimagining of the real-life Underground Railroad as an actual subterranean train system. The novel follows Cora, an enslaved woman who escapes a brutal Georgia plantation and journeys through different states, each with its own twisted version of oppression.

• American Pastoral – Philip Roth
  A deep, sweeping novel about the American Dream unraveling. It follows Swede Levov, a seemingly perfect, successful man whose life crumbles when his daughter commits an act of political terrorism in the 1960s.

• A Visit from the Goon Squad – Jennifer Egan
  A genre-bending novel told through interconnected short stories spanning decades. It explores the rise and fall of people tied to the music industry, touching on themes of time, nostalgia, and the way life changes us.

• Slaughterhouse-Five – Kurt Vonnegut
  A mind-bending classic that blends WWII trauma, time travel, and dark humor. It follows Billy Pilgrim, an American soldier who survives the firebombing of Dresden and becomes "unstuck in time," drifting between past, future, and alien encounters.
